PMI CAPM – Certified Associate In Project Management
Does CAPM certification improve your job prospects?
Hello,
I would like to know everyone’s opinion about the CAPM (Certified Associate in Project management) certification given by PMI. I do not have enough number of years of work experience to take the PMP certification, but I’m very sure I want to go into project management. Would the CAPM certification improve my job prospects? I’m in between jobs now, and I’d like to give a boost to my career by taking this certification. Is it worth it? How do employers view it?
Also, how much time does it take to prepare thoroughly for the test? ( from your own experience) I was thinking of taking 1 month to prepare for it, is this realistic?

If you want to pursue a project management career, getting the CAPM is a great move. For you, it gives a structured way to learn the basic knowledge espoused by the Project Management Institute, the leading PM-related organization. For prospective employers, it provides concrete evidence that you are committed to the profession and willing to go the extra mile.
As far as time for preparation, when I studied for the PMP exam I took about two months, studying about five nights a week. I primarily used Rita Mulcahy’s book, “PMP Exam Prep”. The test was demanding, so I was glad I prepped thoroughly.
