Hi, i’m a student in MDIS. I have been looking for a full time job in admin for a month plus but only 1 interview i have gotten and it was unsuccessful. i had altered my resume for several time. my expectation of salary is 1300. May i know is it my history tt caused the employer to be relectant to hire me?How to get a full time job in the shortest time? i know there are many kind of admin jobs available in s’pore. What kind of admin should a job starter seeking for inorder for the employer to more likely to hire new graduate?

Often, it takes time to find your groove in the working world. We are geared to perform well in our studies, then to find a good job. In many of our conservative education systems, our children are NOT taught to explore their OWN strengths and passions and HOW to build a career based on those strengths.

Now to answer your many questions :
May i know is it my history tt caused the employer to be relectant to hire me?

Employers usually don’t do a background check for applicants of junior-level administrative positions. However, you may throw up red flags if

- you have too many previous employers in a short time (shows you are prone to job-hop)
- your past employment is in a different field.
- your resume is poorly prepared or filled with many typos (remember that admin jobs require that you be detailed and accurate)

How to get a full time job in the shortest time?
- Register with as many temp/job agencies as possible
- Submit/update your resumes and profile on major job sites.
- Go through the classified daily.
- Ask your family and friends to refer you.
- Walk in to companies and just ask politely if they have any vacancies.

Be persistent. Finding a job takes as much effort as it does to keep one.

What kind of admin should a job starter seeking for inorder for the employer to more likely to hire new graduate?

- Generally, in an employer market (more applicants than there are available jobs) then you cannot be choosy. I personally feel that for the first couple of jobs, the most important thing is to learn. Doesn’t matter if the job entails work that you have not been trained for or not in your “preferred” niche. You NEVER know where and when the right task/project will come along that will tell you ” THIS is what I want to do with the rest of my life”

I wish you all the best.

Andrew
